Greetings from 1968!
And from 2010, as well. Atlantic Union College has come a long way from being “That
Old New England School” founded in 1882.
Today, AUC is building on what one recent alumna called
being “an interesting school,” a school who challenged its faculty as much as
it students, and who celebrated unique approaches to living a Christian life.
As president—and as an alum, myself—I know that a college is
only what its alumni are. For one
hundred and twenty-eight years, we have been producing interesting, expansive,
unique thinkers who have always been willing to think hard and act
courageously. Alumni who have challenged and changed their church and their
communities, alumni who have ventured out to change the world. Much of our church’s early mission work
would have been impossible without AUC alumni.
Today, I challenge you to help us continue the work they
started and the work you are now engaged in, yourselves. AUC alumni are bankers
and other business people, pastors and professors, physicians, attorneys,
Government and denominational employees and leaders. And, in most cases, parents,
the greatest leaders we have. You are who AUC is.
Contributing to the College’s Annual Fund helps you do
that.
But you will find other ways to support AUC on the following
pages—please visit them while you think about how you would like to thank AUC
for what the college has done for you and suggest how we can support you in the
future. Feel free to send me or
our Alumni Office a note at any time.
I will be happy to reply to your note with a phone call, if that’s what
you would like.
I hope to see as many of you as possible over the next
several months, and, especially, at alumni weekend in April.
And by the way, does anyone have a copy of the 1968 Minuteman I could borrow?
