Atlantic Union College and the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) worked together from approximately July 2013 until late October 2014 on the accreditation process for national accreditation for the College. While working together, it was noted that the tenets of TRACS were not in congruence with all of the 28-fundamental beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. At a meeting between AUC and TRACS in October 2014, both organizations mutually agreed that due to the differences in religious by-laws and religious fundamental beliefs, respectively, that AUC would seek accreditation through another organization. AUC is currently working with another accreditation association to acquire national accreditation. The name of that organization will be released as soon as all approvals are obtained.
Atlantic Union College
On Sunday, November 16, 2014, the Atlantic Union College Board of Trustees voted to invite Avis Hendrickson, Ed.D., to serve as the new president of Atlantic Union College. She will begin her role as president as soon as possible.
"We're very pleased to welcome Dr. Hendrickson to join the long history of service at Atlantic Union College as president," says Donald G. King, chairman of the Atlantic Union College Board of Trustees. "She brings with her many years of experience as an educator and administrator. The board of trustees looks forward to working with her as she seeks to provide leadership, vision, and strategic planning for the operation of Atlantic Union College, poised for transition into the future." Hendrickson will assist in guiding AUC in its quest for re-accreditation and to build on creating more certificate programs in addition to the one it currently operates on campus known as NETS (Northeast Evangelism Training School). Last year, AUC received State approval from the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education to offer two four-year degree programs in Theology/Religion and Biology/Health Science.
Hendrickson has a doctorate in Developmental Education: Student Development and Personnel Services from Grambling State University. She received a master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from Hunter College of The City University of New York, a bachelor's degree in Behavioral Sciences from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, a senior college of The City University of New York, and a professional degree in Administration and Supervision from Bank Street College of Education.
She comes with extensive experience in student affairs, having worked in community colleges, senior colleges, and universities in urban, suburban, and metropolitan communities. The institutions were public, private, city, and state organizations. Hendrickson has also been recently invited to serve as an evaluation team member with NEASC (The New England Association of Schools and Colleges).
Her additional experiences include serving as a higher education administrator at the executive level and overseeing operations and procedures to identify strategies to make the enrollment process more efficient.
Hendrickson has been involved in a number of additional professional activities and has given presentations on various topics to entities in and outside of the Adventist Church. She is the recipient of several honors and awards and has published articles in a number of publications.
Hendrickson is a member of the Hunts Point Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Northeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and has served the church in many capacities.

On August 13, 2014, AUC received news in the form of a positive Audited Financial Statement that was submitted to the Transnational Assocation of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) team. On September 9, 2014, TRACS responded with an acceptance of the financial statement, as well as next steps in the application process, inclusive of taking the application to the October 2014 TRACS Commission for clarity and acceptance of the final application. AUC is continuing to submit documents to TRACS as requested and is moving forward in the process as delineated by TRACS. The college is also concurrently moving through the certificate program application with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. AUC continues to solicit your prayers, as both processes are daunting but necessary for the growth and development of the college.
Upon the recommendation of the Administration of the Atlantic Union Conference, the Executive Committee governing body of the Atlantic Union Conference voted
on May 8 to give an additional special appropriation of 1.5 million dollars to strengthen the reserves of the College. The funds were donated by the Union with
the understanding that a capital fund-raising drive by the College would commence very soon.
Upon the recommendation of the AUC Strategic Planning Committee, the AUC Board of Trustees, on May 5, voted to authorize the offering of three certificate programs (non-higher education) starting after approval from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is granted. They are as follows:
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)Culinary ArtsEnglish as a Second Language (ESL)
On June 18, 2013 the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education accorded Atlantic Union College conditional authority to award the degrees of Bachelor of Arts in Health Science/Biology and the Bachelor of Arts in Theology/Religion.
The grant of this authority has been made with stipulations. The most important requires the College to submit regular reports to the Board of Higher Education for a period of five years.

The Board of Higher Education of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (Mass BHE) has accorded Atlantic Union College the authority to award the degrees of Bachelor of Arts in Theology/Religion and Bachelor of Science in Health Science/Biology.
We are delighted with this decision and will be working over the coming months to develop faculty and staff, to seek accreditation, and develop plans for recruitment.
Further and ongoing information will be forthcoming as soon as it is available. We thank all who have been praying and patiently waiting for this positive outcome from the Mass BHE.
On April 18, 2013, AUC officials met with the MDHE officials to discuss the status of AUC’s application seeking degree-granting authority. Subsequent to the meeting, AUC received a letter from the MDHE seeking further answers to several questions that mainly had to do with organization and governance, finance (including capital/facilities improvements) and enrollment planning. A deadline of May 24, 2013 was given for AUC to respond. AUC officials, with the assistance of its attorneys, responded to all MDHE questions and hand-delivered them on May 23, a day before the deadline. AUC awaits to hear next from the MDHE.
A copy of the following notification was sent to the Office of the Secretary of State concerning the approval on June 18, 2013, of AUC’s request to offer the Bachelor of Science in Health Science/Biology and the Bachelor of Arts in Theology/Religion , provided that the Board of Higher Education will undertake to review, during the next five-year period, the continued progress of the institution toward meeting the goals set forth in connection with its petition to the Board of Higher Education and its compliance with the following stipulations:
1. By December 1, 2013, the institution shall submit to the Commissioner for his review and approval updated By-Laws which: a) specify that the composition of the Atlantic Union College Board of Trustees shall reflect appropriate qualifications and professional expertise (for example, legal, financial and/or academic backgrounds and experiences) to lead the institution; and b) that the number of trustees without an affiliation with the institution's parent entity must exceed the number of trustees required for a quorum.
2. The institution shall review the provisions in its conflict of interest policy which address the reporting, receiving and handling of trustee conflict of interest issues, and shall identify, in its December 2013 submission to the Commissioner, any new or amended provisions resulting from that review.
3. The institution shall submit to the Board of Higher Education semi-annual status reports by December 15thand June 1st of each year during the five year review period, providing narrative and statistical information on the College, including updates on hiring, enrollment, finances and other information, as requested by Department staff.
